Land Register

plans-based system established in 1979 as a register of Title rather than of deeds. Progressively superseding the Sasines Register, the Land Register process involves a once-and-for-all examination of pertinent deeds, with all relevant information being transferred to a Title Sheet. The contents of the title sheet are guaranteed by the state with indemnity payable for loss suffered from error or inaccuracy. The Title Sheet defines the property extent on an Ordnance Survey map and gives details of price, current owners, mortgage details, and all conditions on the property.

Sasine Register

This is a register of title deeds which has been the mainstay of Scottish Law and land ownership from the 17th century. It is still operational in parts of Scotland. Enacted in 1617, it has undergone subtle changes throughout its lifetime. Minute books were introduced in 1672. These contain abbreviated information taken from title deeds which are registered. The Search Sheet was introduced in the late 1870s. This set out in chronological order the abbreviated information from title deeds for each individual property. The Search Sheet was held in paper form until 1993 when the Register was computerised. To complete the picture, the Search Sheet records dating back to 1875 have been digitally imaged to provide comprehensive access to the information

Chancery and Judicial Registers

This is a collective name for the more "personal" registers held and maintained by the Agency. Information pertaining to leases, wills, court actions of debt or sequestrian, and judgments against an individual resident in Scotland are contained in this group.

Other Registers

There are 10 other registers including protests, service of heirs, great seal, hornings, cachet seal, prince's seal, quarter seal, crown grants, sheriff's commissions and the register of entails.
