Land Registration Act 2002
The Land Registration Act 2002 and Land Registration
Rules 2003 came into force on 13 October 2003.

registration and to provide the method by which
the Land Registry is to operate.

| |
| The main accomplishments
of the Land Registration Act 2002 are: |
| |
|
the simplification and modernisation of land
registry law - the first major overhaul of land
registration for more than 70 years; |
| |
|
|
to modernise the property register so that it
provides a more complete picture of a property's
title to land, e.g. by recording more fully the
rights and interests affecting it, particularly
those rights that were previously not recorded; |
| |
|
|
to provide a framework for the development of
electronic conveyancing. |
| |
|
| Major changes in the law and practice
of land registration include: |
| |
|
|
shorter leases must now be registered |
| |
|
|
voluntary registration is available for more
interests in land, previously unregisterable |
| |
|
|
the reformation of the law relating to adverse
possession |
