Is Land Registration in the
Isle of Man well established?
Compulsory Land Registration
was only introduced to the Isle of Man in
2002 but has been on-going since this date.
However, only properties purchased since Land
Registration was introduced will be registered.
If the property is not registered
can I still obtain a copy of the ownership
deeds?
Yes, but this is not
straight-forward. The Deeds & Probate
Registry of the Isle of Man retain copies
of all deeds but they are filed under the
surname of the owners. To proceed it is necessary
to discover the name of the owner from the
rates office and then to search for the deeds
at the Deeds & Probate Registry.
How long does a property
search in the Isle of Man take?
At present searches
in the Isle of Man are conducted both by telephone
and general post. There is no provision for
searching via the internet. Most searches
take about 2 weeks.
